Happy Tails!

Thank you to Jen Witte for our first featured Happy Tail!

Hello BARKS Friends! I would like to share an update with all of you on Ethan, a long time BARKS resident and favorite among volunteers. Ethan has found his furever home with my fiancée and I in Vernon, and not only completes my life, filling the role of my best friend and companion, but also touches the hearts of everyone who we cross paths with.

Last September I had lost my pet corgi, Disco, to a year long battle with cancer. I had adopted Disco six years prior and we had formed a irreplaceable, loving bond with one another. Having owned dogs my entire life and mourning the loss of my beloved friend, I knew the only cure for my heart ache would be to replace love with love, so two weeks later I visited BARKS. My mom has been a volunteer at BARKS for a couple years and one of Ethan’s biggest advocates, singing his praises to everyone whom might have been a potential adopter, so I was well aware of him. I had planned just to visit with my mom to spend time with the dogs and do something positive to help my grieving process. After spending some time with all the dogs at BARKS on my initial visit I decided, since I did not have any weekend plans and since it had been a LONG while since he had experienced a loving home, that I would take Ethan home for the weekend. Well needless to say the weekend turned into forever!

From the moment Ethan stepped in our condo he exuded love and gratitude to everyone he came in contact with. On Sunday we knew there would be no way we would be able to return him to the shelter and once again have a void in our home. Ethan saved us and gave back so much to our life just as much as we saved him. He loves going on long walks along the golf course, swimming in the many streams and making four legged friends at the dog park. It has been the most rewarding experience incorporating Ethan into our family and watching him enjoy holidays and special occasions in a loving home, including dressing up as super dog on Halloween and helping to greet trick or treaters and having his picture taken with Santa and Mrs. Clause.

Ethan spends a lot of time with his big, new family. He especially enjoys trip to my mom’s (his "Grandma’s") house, where he plays with his best friend, fellow BARKS alum, Buddy and Bella, a puppy mill rescue. In addition to his dog family, Ethan also enjoys spending time with our niece, five year old Isabella, who he recently escorted to the bus stop for her first day of Kindergarten!

Ethan is such a joy in our life and I couldn’t imagine a day without my best friend. I am so thankful we found each other!
